Rochester School Greenhouse Project - Three Year Plan

Mission Statement

To maintain a safe and effective greenhouse on school property. To use the greenhouse project as a focal point, to develop relationships between the school and the community. To integrate lessons in sustainable farming, and agricultural cycles into the school curriculum that will teach the impact that food production and nutrition have on society. To teach children how to grow their own food that can subsequently be used to feed their own school community in the cafeteria and teach them about the impact food has on health and well-being.

 

Objectives Spring 2009

1. Incorporate lessons in sustainable farming and agricultural cycles in to the specials program, once or twice a month.

2. Develop an after-school program and Garden Club that will meet once a week.

3. Feed the school community with the produce from the school gardens and the greenhouse.

4. Integrate the community into the greenhouse project through coordinating activities with the library and the 4H Club.

5. Establish and develop the maintenance team through posting a list of members and a calendar for their work schedule.

6. Supply the greenhouse with everything necessary to maintain the objectives (1-5) for students and volunteers.
